A GUI indexer tool

Maybe you don’t know but Achim Bursian joined the dev team. Welcome!

He’s finished the alpha version of a GUI indexer and transferer tool. You simple select the original Wikpedia database in his tool. It will then index the file and upload (!) it to the device (either the iPod Touch or an iPhone). Because the tool is using the USB connection the upload is much faster and more stable than using Wifi or so.

Sorry: Actually available only for Windows.

You find some more instruction on Google Code and discussions on the forum.

Great job Achim!

The Screenshot Picture looks fine but the download link is bad.

You don’t have permission to view this file.

Cydia is a apt-get front end for iPhone and may well be the Installer killer… I think you can contact modmyifone.com at the following address to get wiki2touch hosted there.

Tom, although i’m marveled by your app, just reporting a few “bugs”. When viewing the english article for “cheetah” i get a lot of “Template:convert/” in red, in places there should be other stuff. Again, don’t take this as a complaint, i really love your app!

    Thanks for everything

    Lourenço

    Lourenço-

thanks for the report. I don#t take that as a complain. No, without these comments I will never know that there are issues. I think Wiki2Touch is extremly stable but yes, it’s computer software and has bugs.

I’ve opend up a thread over at the forums for collecting thses issues:

    http://wiki2touch.ipodhelp.de/viewtopic.php?pid=146#p146

    Lourenço, thanks again!

I finally got around to try the indexer on my Windows machine, but it would say “Could not find iTunes support DLLS. You must have iTunes installed” despite having iTunes 7.5 installed. Moving the dlls to the gui directory doesn’t work, either.

  11. Andreas Maehler Says:

    Hi,

I´ve tried to index the downloaded articles, but i have got the mesage “not enough space on the ipod….. (thats not true, and i ´ve moved the applications and fonts with bosstools)

much greetings (and sorry about my english)

    Andreas

  12. pwas Says:

For some strange reason the files that get indexed show up on my desktop instead of going to the ipod and then a error pops up telling me “check if you have installed wiki2touch correctly”

  13. Tom Says:

    pwas-

thanks for the reply. Achim did the indexer, so it’s maybe a good idea to ask the question again on the forum. I’m not sure if Achim tracks the blog comments but he is doing that with the forum threads.

    Thanks.
