… now points to the Google-Code page for Wiki2Touch.

Anyway, I was able to download the images for the German Wikipedia. Thumbs with the size of 130px 120px (x-axis). Usually Wikipedia is using 180px. I’ve decided to use 130px 120px because most of the images are much smaller. I’ve got 333275 out of 343896 images. The remaining was either not found or to large. I’ve not downloaded pictures larger than 128 kBytes.

I’ve stored the images in two different locations: One with the source of WikiCommons, the other once with the source of the German Wikipedia. So maybe the ones from Common can be reused. I will put them to two different files. Speed on the device is fine and doesn’t matter. So there is no problem.

Actually I don’t know how large these two files are gonna be. And maybe I will drop some larger ones. I will keep you informed.

I try to get everything I have out this weekend. This will include changes to the application (support for a commons image file), the Chinese JavaScript fix, a language aware indexer (because of language depended image prefixes), configurable image prefix for other languages than English and German and of course the source for the image downloader.

Speaking of images, the icon on the home screen is a bit jaggy. I’ve resized the Wiki logo myself, sharpened it a little and made the background transparent. It’s easier on the eyes. Someone may want to make it look like an iPod Touch style logo too.

Would you be keen to use this new logo in the next update?

    hello
as far as i understand a big problem about the images is that the file is just really big.
Now I was wondering if it is not possible to use images only specific for one category. I mean e.g. u only download images from articles which are tagged with the word medicine, or politics or whatever.
Of course this would only work if the articles on wiki are tagged with specific keyword, which i dont know if thats the case.
Anyways that would be awsome for me since i dont have much space on my pod but i would like to be able to see the images related to medical articles.
by the the way…this app is the bomb…keep it up

ok so i just saw that the articles are sorted by categories. Is there a way to only download the images from one category and pit it on the touch?
    thx

    Craig & Tojaman-

thanks for the icons. Craigs will be in the next version although I like the button style one of Tojamann a little bit better. Bit it lacks a transparent background.

It’s not hard to replace it. Simply put the image file to your device to /Applications/wiki2touch.app/Icon.png.

    Tim-

I was able to get the next version ready last night. But didn’t had the time to write the documentation for it.

I will realey everything during the day and explain how to get and install images. Unless someone uploads images packs to rapit share it’s not so easy. But I will provide all the tools to add images.
