I have just bought a Giga NAS with firmware G5S52256202 in it and I've loaded 2 x 300Gb SATA drives. It's on a small Windows LAN, set to a static IP.

It basically works but when I try to copy more than one or two files to it, it dies with this error:

GLib-CRITICAL **: file ghash.c: line 145 (g_hash_table_lookup): assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed.

What's going on and how do I get it fixed?

Well, after i got a warranty exchange NAS (in fact it was an repaired one!), i was happy to see the LINK and ACT LED blinking after switching it on.
But soon i was dissappointed again. After installing and formatting the HDD, the NAS did not reboot automatically. Even after 30 minutes after it showed "Reboot may take several minutes" the system did no boot. I powered it off and on again and it worked. But again after some time the system did not respond. It seemed to be an temperature problem. Leaving the system off for a while makes it work, but after 5-10 minutes it locks up. So i directly connected the Fan to the onboard 12V-plug for permanent cooling... still the same.

Spending 2 long evenings with it, i decided to send the NAS to my dealer and get my cash back.

I got myself a Intel D201GLY2 mainboard, 512MB DDR RAM (for the cash i got back) and installed SME Linux on it. It works fine, put the 2 HDD into a RAID1-array (Software) and also has some nice features like an email-, dhcp-, apache-, dns-, proxy- and fax-server and it needs just 60W of power due to the low power cpu (Celeron 220@1,2GHz). Now i can switch of my old Server that fullfilled these tasks and took a lot more power!

@Mac: maybe this is a solution for your problem too?! :-)

@Fabio & Samuel: Great Post! My NAS is now back to life after a bad flash. I now use the latest version from mrt-communication.

I am still facing a "serious" problem though. After a couple of hours of activity my NAS stopps responding to pings and I am not able to access the Webinterface anymore. Sometimes even the router to which the NAS is connected crashes. When I unplug the NAS is comes back imediately but the NAS need to be rebooted. Does Anyone have seen this strange "behaviour"?

Cheers

@volker: tnx for your idea. But there is no physical connection (status-indicator on switch lights on every IP-adress... but it doesn't when the NAS is connected). I returned the NAS to my dealer for warranty exchange. :-(

(for Paul): look in Your Router for DHCP addresses used. The box may be on an address Youre not aware of. . . Mine was by default in the 192.168.2.x network . .

Hello !
Just wanted to tell You that I bricked my Dual HDD IDE NAS with RAID1. Felt a bit lost. By simply putting it to an external USB-IDE I was able to mount the drive and fully recover the data (to an other disk).
Now one thing: can I recover the old config and just put in the disks ? the are fine, just wiped out everything in the firmware &ramdisk. Running the latest tinky now . . Greetings and have fun !

Hi.

I just got my new Dual HDD NAS (not the Giga one).
The new SATA HDDs have not yet arrived and i wondered if this NAS is working.
After switching the IP of my laptop to 192.168.1.10 i connected it to the NAS and powerd it on. Even after 5 minutes of waiting it was not possible to connect to 192,168.1.1. The blue power-led was on, but the link-led on the ethernet-port of the laptop did not light (and so did the link led on the NAS). I tried several patch wires but it did not work. So i connected the NAS to my network switch (because i thought i might need a crossover wire) the result was the same. No ping was possible and the encluded software did not find the NAS.

Now i wonder if the NAS needs a HDD connected to boot and get the network working?

Has anybody experienced something like this and can confirm?

Guys, does anyone know where I can download the G5S52233205 firmware? Upgrading to G5S52233211 has broken my NAS. I can get into the bootloader so I guess I can recover if I can find the old firmware!

Hello,

I have been reading these threads with interest, as I have a Dual NAS with one 500GB HDD fitted; I use the Dual NAS for File Transfer within my home network but would ideally like to stream audio & video files, to locations both inside and outside my home network.

The Dual NAS is running the latest firmware number G5S52233211, which does not seem to allow telnet access; so far I have not been able to locate the previous firmware number G5S52233205, although I have found but have not installed CentriNAS v233a.

Should I be attempting to (a) locate and install the previous firmware number G5S52233205, (b) install CentriNAS v233a and/or (c) install some other firmware, eg NAS2000; in order to archive multimedia streaming using something like Twonky?

I would be grateful for any advice you may have; please assume I am an absolute beginner, so any basic instructions would also be much appreciated.

Thanks
